Zouk Course Open Level 4 week Course (all levels) • Ideal for anyone who has had some partner dancing experience or if you have done Zouk. • Beginners also welcome, but note we will progress faster compared to a beginner Zouk course. Note there is no free 1st class in this Open Level • If you haven't tried Zouk before, or if you have done our previous Zouk courses you will learn something new. • Learn Zouk basics, style and technique. We will also be including Neo Zouk influences.
What is Zouk? It's another fun Latin Dance that originates from Brazil with french influence, it's a relative of Lambada and is sometimes called Zouk Lambada.

It's worth repeating this level no matter what level you are, Improver, Intermediate or Advanced you can still improve your foundation. It's highly recommended you have completed 8 weeks of beginners class before joining this level. Remember if you find our intermediate a struggle, do this level as well as intermediate to help. You will pick up more details second or third time round, no matter what level you are.

If you are interested in taking your Salsa to the next level and interested in performing or competitions. You can start by joining our dance team! Train with some of the best salsa dancers in New Zealand to perform or to learn about how to perform and learn a salsa routine which will develop your salsa tremendously! Learn and have the oppertunity to perform and compete in Salsa competitions, Congresses and more, with Salsa Sabrosa. We are always on the look out for new dance partners male & female. Must be keen to take it a level further into couple competition & and possibly train to teach.

Level: you will need to know 'some' salsa, but not essential if you have done form of dance training in the past. Even allot beginner Salsa dancers have gone through to the audition in previous times.
Benefits: • Become part of a salsa team that is social and fun to be in. • Get trained to a high standard - you will look great on the social dancer floor and performing. • Learn the tips and tricks, big moves 'arials' that we don't teach in our normal salsa classes. • Improve your fitness and confidence. • Get extra assistance for competitions either in teams or couples.

About the Auditioning: • We will be running auditions as we would run a salsa class. • A combo from a routine will be demonstrated & taught and we may partner you with someone and swap partners. Note that this might be recorded on video for our reference. • Some of the current Salsa Sabrosa team will also be assisting and participating so you will learn faster. • Please be aware that you may learn 'performance moves' such as neck-drops, slides and lifts are for performing and are not meant to be used for social dancing.

Course Length: 3 weeks (P.S. don't miss the first week) Level: All Levels (pref: Bridge, Improver, Intermediate & Beyond) 3 Part Workshop Series Course Lineup - #1 Body Movement Upper & Shines - #2 Body Movement Lower & Salsa Shines - #3 Body Movement All & Afro Cuban & Puerto Rican Shine

Body Movement is an essential part of Salsa & other Latin dances such as Merengue, Cha, Zouk & Bachata. Learn body movement exercises & isolations to get the correct movement. Learn how & when to add it into shines & partnering etc. You will also learn Afro Cuban & Puerto Rican elements. If you have done this course last time, this will be great practice for body movement, plus allot more & you will learn more shines.
What is a shine? a shine is simply when you break away from your dance partner and do footwork to the Mambo section of the music. Or for performers 'facing the audience'..
TO SHINE…OR NOT TO SHINE…? Shines are a vital and exciting element within Salsa. When we first start salsa most of us have to get used to the whole ‘partner’ idea, which at first seems to be a strange ‘invasion of space’; After a while, we get so ‘comfortable’ with simply holding hands and tying and untying knots, that the thought of letting go and ‘shining’ on our own becomes quite confronting. We don’t know what to do with our feet or our bodies, and the shapings and ‘moods’ of some steps may be a little unfamiliar at first. However shines are really liberating! It allows the leader and follower equal possession and enjoyment of the song, without breaking the ‘partnership’ bond. To avoid them is missing out on half the experience of salsa. Shines should not overtake the dance, but it is an exciting break in patterns to watch and is great fun to do.
What Level is it?: Anyone at any level can give it a go, however we will be aiming it to these levels: Bridge, Improvers, Intermediate & beyond. We will be pushing it harder each week, so come and try out the 1st week.
Partners?: No partner is needed, this is footwork only. This workshop is for Men & Ladies!
