Bachata Start Dates: Beginners - Mon 6th Dec 7:30pm (FREE 1st class)

Bachata (Traditional) Beginners Class: For Beginners in Bachata, starting from the beginning, this is a fun class & your first one is FREE. If you have done this course before there will be some new combos. Once you have completed the bachata open level course, or have done beginners Bachata, you could progress the next level in Bachata when they appear.
Bachata Styles? • Traditional Style Bachata is the most simple, great to start with. It also has the most Dominican style influences. • Bachata Moderna style is "Tango" influenced Bachata with more complex fundamentals • Bachata Tango is a new style that has even more tango influence with new fundamentals & is popular in Italy & Spain.

Start Date 6th December 2010 Time: Mondays 8:30pm-9:30pm For Men & Women Course Length: 3 weeks (P.S. don't miss the first week) Level: Beg#2, Improver, Intermediate & Beyond 3 Part course Lineup - #1 Secrets of Body Movement - #2 Body Movement & Shines - #3 Afro Cuban with Shines

Body Movement is an essential part of Salsa & other latin dances such as Merengue, Cha, Zouk & Bachata. Learn body movement exercises & isolations to get the correct movement. Learn how & when to add it into shines & partnering etc. You will also learn Afro Cuban elements including how to shimmy.
What is a shine? a shine is simply when you break away from your dance partner and do footwork to the Mambo section of the music. Or for performers 'facing the audience'.
TO SHINE…OR NOT TO SHINE…? Shines are a vital and exciting element within Salsa. When we first start salsa most of us have to get used to the whole ‘partner’ idea, which at first seems to be a strange ‘invasion of space’; After a while, we get so ‘comfortable’ with simply holding hands and tying and untying knots, that the thought of letting go and ‘shining’ on our own becomes quite confronting. We don’t know what to do with our feet or our bodies, and the shapings and ‘moods’ of some steps may be a little unfamiliar at first. However shines are really liberating! It allows the leader and follower equal possession and enjoyment of the song, without breaking the ‘partnership’ bond. To avoid them is missing out on half the experience of salsa. Shines should not overtake the dance, but it is an exciting break in patterns to watch and is great fun to do.
What Level is it?: Anyone can give it a go, however we will be aiming it to these levels: Beg2, Improvers, Intermediate & beyond.
Partners?: No partner is needed, this is footwork only. This workshop is for Men & Ladies!

Salsa Class (Linear salsa On1) Salsa Fundamentals. This is the most important level you will ever learn, its the foundation to linear salsa. It's worth repeating this level no matter what level you are, Improver, Intermediate or Advanced you can still improve your foundation. It's highly recommended you have completed 8 weeks of beginners class before joining this level. Remember if you find our intermediate a struggle, do this level as well as intermediate to help. You will pick up more details second or third time round, no matter what level you are.

Salsa Class (Linear salsa On1) You will learn - More Fundamentals and beyond. Also learn variations, combos, turn patterns, dips, techniques & styling. Duration: Join any time after the Improvers course and then complete a total of 1 year in Intermediate. Each of the Sections (A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I,J,K,L) all 4 week courses. You can join on week#1 on any of these sections as you finish Improver levels. Once you have completed all of the sections in' any' order you may be able to progress to the Upper Intermediate level on Monday at 8:30pm

Social Dance Night Join us for a Hot Salsa Night at 'The Base Bar & Nightclub' - located in the heart of Sol Square in Christchurch.
