Bachata Start Dates: Beginners - Mon 6th Dec 7:30pm (FREE 1st class)

Bachata (Traditional) Beginners Class: For Beginners in Bachata, starting from the beginning, this is a fun class & your first one is FREE. If you have done this course before there will be some new combos. Once you have completed the bachata open level course, or have done beginners Bachata, you could progress the next level in Bachata when they appear.
Bachata Styles? • Traditional Style Bachata is the most simple, great to start with. It also has the most Dominican style influences. • Bachata Moderna style is "Tango" influenced Bachata with more complex fundamentals • Bachata Tango is a new style that has even more tango influence with new fundamentals & is popular in Italy & Spain.

Body Movement is an essential part of Salsa & other latin dances such as Merengue, Cha, Zouk & Bachata. Learn body movement exercises & isolations to get the correct movement. Learn how & when to add it into shines & partnering etc. You will also learn Afro Cuban elements including how to shimmy.
What is a shine? a shine is simply when you break away from your dance partner and do footwork to the Mambo section of the music. Or for performers 'facing the audience'.
TO SHINE…OR NOT TO SHINE…? Shines are a vital and exciting element within Salsa. When we first start salsa most of us have to get used to the whole ‘partner’ idea, which at first seems to be a strange ‘invasion of space’; After a while, we get so ‘comfortable’ with simply holding hands and tying and untying knots, that the thought of letting go and ‘shining’ on our own becomes quite confronting. We don’t know what to do with our feet or our bodies, and the shapings and ‘moods’ of some steps may be a little unfamiliar at first. However shines are really liberating! It allows the leader and follower equal possession and enjoyment of the song, without breaking the ‘partnership’ bond. To avoid them is missing out on half the experience of salsa. Shines should not overtake the dance, but it is an exciting break in patterns to watch and is great fun to do.
What Level is it?: Anyone can give it a go, however we will be aiming it to these levels: Beg2, Improvers, Intermediate & beyond.
Partners?: No partner is needed, this is footwork only. This workshop is for Men & Ladies!

Brazilian Percussion. Friday 12th November 7:30 - 9:30pm This Workshop will cover in detail the techniques and rhythms used in Brazilian samba schools. Instruments provided.
Samba de Roda. Saturday 13th November 4pm - 5:50pm A full immersion into the rhythm and movement of Samba. A glimpse at the roots of Samba.
Body Percussion using Rhythms of Brazil. Saturday 13th November 2pm - 3:30pm Learn traditional styles through movement and rhythm. Stepping, clapping and using your body to explore musical possibilities.

Quake Recap: After a massive 7.2 Earth Quake hit Christchurch on the 4th of Sept & with a series of aftershocks caused Manchester courts building to become unstable. 'Salsa latina resided in the first level', currently it is now being demolished.

New Timing Salsa CD (2010) or Mp3 Set (2009) contains essential timing, rhythms & music for salsa dancers. it's for beginners to advanced levels. It contains counts so you can get used to stepping in time with salsa and give you not only music to practice to, but knowledge of how salsa music is constructed, so you can become a better dancer. Salsa Latina uses tracks in its classes, it will train your brain to stay in time. There is a total of 13 tracks and tempos ranging from slow to med paced songs and now includes a bonus cha cha percussion track.
